The Faculty of Social Sciences has emerged from two, still existing, disciplines in the Faculty of Theology of The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow. Those two courses include Family Studies as well as Journalism and Social Communication. Other disciplines concerning the scope of social studies inspired by social teaching of the Church are planned to be opened in the future.

At present, the structure of the Faculty of Social Sciences consists of nine departments which are organizational units of research and didactic activity. The departments are as follows:
