General information

The educational goals of the Department of Philosophy are twofold: to familiarize our students with the occidental philosophical tradition and to develop the ability of critical thinking. Our students are encouraged to get involved in research activities conducted at our department in an area that best suits their interest and capabilities. Our desire is to ask the "biggest questions" for we believe that philosophical reflection can stimulate culture only when it is confronted with problems of the most fundamental importance.

The studies in philosophy at our department are offered at three levels: (1) a three year licentiate program, (2) a two year Master's program and (3) a program towards the Ph. D. degree in philosophy. The completion of an additional pedagogical coursework enables our students to teach ethics and philosophy at a high school level. Also, our department has the right to promote candidates holding Ph. D. degrees towards habilitation.
