UPJPII announcement on coronavirus situation and measures
Dear partners, dear colleagues,
Kind regards from the UPJPII. Let me address you with the latest information on the development of the coronavirus occurrence in the Poland and the measures the University management and the Centre for International Cooperation have introduced.
The situation in Poland and worldwide is rigorously monitored by the Polish Government and appropriate steps are taken immediately to minimize any risk to the residents living or staying currently in the country and to contribute to the relevant response to the outbreak across the continents.
The COVID-19 occurrence is still moderate in Poland - currently 205 cases only, but as the numbers have been increasing recently, the Ministry of Health issued yesterday, March 13, an extraordinary preventive measure closing all types of schools including universities for the next two weeks, banning events that may attract 50+ participants and limiting travels abroad and arrivals from abroad to the unavoidable extent.
Following the governmental measure, the Rector has cancelled all the classes, consultations, and other university-related activities and events from March 10, on for two weeks.
The Centre for Scientific Research and International Cooperation as well as Faculty and Departmental coordinators for international students do work and are ready to be in email or telephone contact with your students hosted here any time they may feel the need.
All international students will be kept informed about the situation, asked to avoid travelling abroad to countries affected by the outbreak, and if they decide to travel to safe countries they are expected to let the coordinators know about their plans and dates of the trip.
Currently the Government strongly recommends to avoid travelling to the following European countries: Italy, Spain, France, and Germany. To make sure the residents here are as safe as possible, arrivals from Italy are under obligatory two-week quarantine, arrivals from other countries may face quarantine requirements as well if recommended by Public Health authorities.
We are ready to continue to take care of all the international students studying at the UPJPII now and help them with anything they may need; we hope the situation will soon develop in a favourable way, in the Central Europe as well as globally, and international mobility will stop to be hindered by the current measures.
Should you have any doubts or queries, please do not hesitate to ask me or my colleagues at the Centre.
We will keep you updated with any relevant developments in the situation.
Thank you very much for your cooperation,
with all best wishes,
Rev. Prof. Józef Stala
Vice-Rector for Scientific Potential and International Cooperation of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow
